Predators and Child Molesters

predatorsBy Robin Sax
Prometheus Books, $17.98, 179 pages

This book starts out, appropriately, with statistics that will absolutely crush any semblance of an “It can’t happen to me or mine” attitude, which effectively moves the reader-most likely parents-to press on in reading this book, despite its repulsive subject matter. Lawyer Robin Sax comes out swinging with a hard look at the monstrous numbers of child abuse and molestation in Predators and Child Molesters: What Every Parent Needs to Know to Keep Kids Safe. Although the major portion of this book focuses on prevention, what’s truly disturbing reading to most parents is the end of the book-what happens after the violation occurs. Sax uses her knowledge of the criminal justice system, along with her years as a District Attorney, to give an insiders look into the trial and punishment process.
Although well-written, meticulously researched, and full of hard facts, this reader did tend to wonder if there was an audience for the second half of the book. Would a parent in that situation actually have the wits about them to sit down and read a book about the upcoming process?
